Depression and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Using CBT, DBT, and psychotherapy approaches help you gain understanding in your view of the world, and how you navigate through it.
I believe that recovery should be treated from a dual diagnosis approach. Substance abuse is often fueled from untreated mental health and avoidant behaviors. I use the disease model to tackle these challenges for long term recovery.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic events. Anxiety and depression often go hand in hand with trauma. Feelings of isolation, flashbacks, overwhelm, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. I use CBT and a trauma informed approaches to help process feelings of grief towards healing.
The goal of CBT is to help the individual enact change in thinking patterns and behaviors, thereby improving quality of life not by changing the circumstances in which the person lives, but by helping the person take control of his or her own perception of those circumstances. In short: What you think you become.
My approach to psychotherapy which is really just a talk therapy style, is to gain understanding in how you navigate the world. This is done through exploring childhood, relationships, behaviors and thought patterns.
